USAINS HOLDING AND USM CELEBRATE THE SUCCESS OF THE FIRST PIONEER PROGRAM- TOEIC TRAINING FOR THE INDUSTRY

USAINS Holding and Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM) celebrate the success of their first “Test of English for International Communication” (TOEIC) Training for the Northern Region industry.
The TOEIC program, renowned for its industry-focused English language training, aims to enhance workplace communication skills. It is coordinated by USAINS Holding and Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM). USM is one of the exclusive test centres in the northern region and the first public university in Malaysia authorized as a test centre for the Educational Testing Service (ETS) products since 2022.
The inaugural cohort of 24 employees from Boston Scientific in Penang recently completed the TOEIC training and received their certification. The participants underwent a complete training including 24 hours of face-to-face instruction and 6 hours of remote learning. The participants achieved an average score of 750 points, surpassing Malaysia's national average of 647 points as reported in the 2023 TOEIC World Report by ETS. 12 of them, constituting 50% of the cohort, scored exceptionally well above 800 points, comparable to European standards.
Present at the certificate presentation ceremony is the Vice-Chancellor of USM, Professor Dato’ Seri Ir. Dr. Abdul Rahman Mohamed highlighted that USM is always looking at ways to improve University – Industry collaboration and applauded the initiative pioneered by USAINS; and he described the initiative was a good milestone towards enhancing employees’ generic skills as a value-added component to the specific skills that the employees may already have while working at a prestigious organization such as Boston Scientific.
USAINS Group of Companies Managing Director, Mr. Farid Wajidi Mat Yusoff thanked the USAINS TOEFL/TOEIC team members for their forward-looking strategies working with the industry players in crafting and designing the generic skills program such as TOEIC to enhance the industry employees softskill elements subsequently facilitate productivity and efficiency in discharging their tasks. He regarded today’s event as a good “kick-off” for more dynamic collaboration in the future.
Production Director of Boston Scientific in Penang, Mr. Ooi Cheong Yew said the company believes in fostering a supportive environment that encourages employees to learn and improve. He also extended his congratulations to the team that has invested their time and effort in completing this course.
